Prior to joining Ko\u00e7 University, he was Professor of Economics at Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University. He is the former Director of both the Center for Research on Globalization, Peace and Democratic Governance (GLODEM) and the Graduate School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Ko\u00e7 University. His recent research focuses on a variety of themes in global political economy, rising powers including the dynamics of the emerging post-liberal international (dis)order, varieties of populism in a comparative and global context, and domestic politics-foreign policy linkages in rising powers. His articles have been published in <em>Review of International Political Economy, New Political Economy, Global Governance, Journal of Democracy, Comparative Politics, Government and Opposition, Development and Change, Mediterranean Politics, Third World Quarterly, Democratization, Political Science Quarterly, International Affairs inter alia.\u00a0<\/em> He is the co-recipient, with Mustafa Kutlay, of the Elizabeth Meehan Prize for the best article published in <em>Government and Opposition<\/em> in 2019. In March 2023, he received the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award in the context of 18<sup>th<\/sup> Kadir Has Awards.\u00a0 More recently, he is the recipient of the Ko\u00e7 University Outstanding Teaching Award for 2023-2024, the International Relations Council of T\u00fcrkiye Senior Scholar Award for 2024, andnd the Academic Service Award of the Turkish Economics Association for 2025. He was elected as a Member of the Academia Europea in 2026.
